Centre for Talented Youth (Ireland)

Picture
The CTYI operates spring, summer and autumn courses for children aged 6-13 who have high ability i.e. perform at or above the 90th percentile in school standardised tests either English or Maths or both (STen score of 9 or 10 - check your child's report).

Courses are in topics not usually covered in the primary curriculum e.g. Astronomy, App making, Chemistry, Codes and Ciphers, Experimental Physics, Chinese, Strategy and Games, Novel and Play Writing, Forensic Science, The World of Harry Potter, Art Design etc. They offer a chance to learn about fascinating topics at a faster pace in the company of like-minded peers from around Ireland or by correspondence (email) if you cannot travel.  Scholarships and grants towards costs are available, too.

How will I know if my child is eligible to apply?
Admission is by application and ability test, held at various venues around the country from September through June. The nearest ones to us are Wexford IT and DCU Dublin.

If interested, download a Young Student assessment application form from this page (click on Download File below) or find it on the CTYI site here. Full details of how to apply, venues, dates, etc are on the form. Our school roll number (for the form) is 00651R.

If your child has an Education Psychologist assessment indicating high ability this may be accepted instead of the ability test.

Click on the video on the right to see what the children say about it! (7 mins).

Postal application only so print out the form below and send off!
Or call into the school office for one.

If you have any questions not answered on the site ask Mr Collins c/o the school. Good luck!
